Does watermoccisin Cottonmouth has a twin?
I was in the yard this morning and saw a shiny black snake all about 48 inchs, I saw the white line in the mouth, not defined as I thought it would be, when I approached him was not moving, I've done some research, I in southeastern Kansas, the courtyard has been covered several ponds, I fear for my 55 lbs dog that is not wise and forests curious about these kind things.Is this fear justified?
Moccasins usually open the mouth when you mad, and also tend to be a snake looks very thick. From your description, that could mean this agent. I've never seen a cottonmouth 48 inches long.
