Cold and snowy days, long nights, flashing lights, festivals, parties and shopping can only mean one thing: the holiday season. With hundreds of different celebrations throughout the world, December is the official month of vacation. Here in the western town decorate the trees and give gifts to commemorate the birth of Christ. But many people do not know where the origin or tradition as other major holidays throughout the world.
It started with the sun
Originally December was a tough and difficult time for people. With the harvest season is officially over and winter is fast approaching, people living in latitudes Northern had to live off what they had stored food, and animals were able to hunt. Not only have this to deal with, but beyond that, the sun has more and higher in the sky during this time and the days shorter. The people feared the sun would disappear and leave them in a permanent state of cold and darkness.
However, after the winter solstice occurs on December 21, realized that the days started getting longer and the sun was higher in the sky. This, of course, was cause for celebration. Of course, there were still many months of winter ahead, but this event assured everyone that the arrival of spring was inevitable and only a matter of time.
Worldwide and in many different religions and belief systems had their own ceremonies and traditions celebrate the solstice. Candles were lit, were decorated trees, people gave thanks, sang songs and prayers, he said.
Christmas
The Christmas holidays, many people around the world celebrate this day, is closely linked to the celebration of the solstice. In the 4th century, many Christians wanted to celebrate the birth of Christ, yet there was no official record of the date of his birth. Also at that time the Roman Emperor was trying to do Christianity the official religion, so December 25 seemed the perfect time, because many Romans celebrated the solstice. With the conversion to Christianity, people could maintain their customs and festivals, but instead of celebrating the sun, now celebrating the birth of Christ.
Other then the time of conclusion, There are many other traditions that have made their way from ancient Rome to modern times. Decorate the tree with lights and ornaments, holly, ivy, mistletoe, the Yule log, gifts, and magic reindeer are all traditions that are associated with the ancient Romans.
Furthermore, we come with new forms and new traditions to celebrate Christmas. Santa Claus is a popular figure among children worldwide. In many countries, Santa Claus comes down the chimney and gives gifts to good children and pieces coal to bad children. Elsewhere, children put their shoes at night and "Santa Claus" comes and fills them with gifts. But no matter how you celebrate Christmas now, if not for our ancestors, it would be very different holidays.
Hanukkah
Hanukkah is another celebration of light. This is a Jewish tradition that occurs during eight days in December. It commemorates the war fought by the Maccabees for religious freedom. When they returned to their temple, there was only enough oil to last one day. However, the finished oil burning eight days.
Today, modern Jews celebrate this festival by lighting a menorah each day for eight days. There are nine spaces in the menorah, the center is where they keep the "light" the candle that illuminates others. Every day, light a candle more, until finally in the last day, the nine candles are glowing.
Today Hanukkah is a much bigger celebration than it used to be. Mainly due to the popularity of Christmas, this event has grown in importance, especially for children. Besides lighting the menorah each day for eight days, children are a gift from his parents. Other activities include construction of a House of Hanukkah, dradles playing, singing, baking cookies and decorating the house with silver and blue.
Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa is a celebration of Africa held by millions of people around the world with African roots. It is a celebration of culture and tradition that speaks of what it means to be African and human in the sense wide. It was created in 1966 by a professor of African studies at California State University and was destined to be a holiday cultural rather than religious. Kwanzaa is celebrated for a week December 26 to January 1. Each of the seven days of the conclusion is based on one of the seven principles are unity, self determination, collective responsibility and work, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
During the Kwanzaa decorate their homes with African black colors, red and green. Quenched traditional symbol of Africa as African baskets, cloth patterns, art objects and symbols of the harvest. People greet each other using the Swahili saying "Habari Gani?" The answer is one of seven principles, the most often the focus of the festivities of that day.
Gifts are given only to children. But every gift should include a book and a kind of symbol of heritage. The book emphasizes the value of learning and the African symbol of heritage is to strengthen Africa's commitment to tradition and history.
By Of course, there are countless festivals and celebrations that happens in every country around the world in this time of year. No matter where you live or what your faith, so it must will be a sort of holiday or celebration associated with the change of seasons. So enjoy and be happy and happy holidays!
