The size of each crime scene is different from one another, and the police must be prepared to determine the size and boundaries of a scene. This problem is not as easy as it sounds. A crime scene may be a small bedroom, a mansion of everything, everything on the farm, including an entire subdivision.
At minimum, crime scene refers to:
- The exact place where the crime occurred
- Locations from where the scene can be entered and left
- Places of the key pieces of evidence, and body in a murder, a safe or drawer in a robbery, or an entire building in a suspicious fire
The crime scene can be divided using tape access the crime scene, barriers, car, or even police standing guard. Only qualified personnel to process a scene are allowed access. This restriction is often more difficult to achieve. From the victim's family, friends or neighbors can be an emotional wreck and therefore difficult to remove from the scene. Then there are the members of the press and the paparazzi who have sneaky ways to get access to a scene from crime. Finally, there is the curiosity of a spectator who is gradually finding its way into restricted areas.
After the scene is secured, the first officer to arrive establishes what is known as a guarantee of registration. A security log is a sign-in sheet to be signed by any and all persons in the place. It is a form of crowd control, facilitating research in many ways. For the most part, limiting the amount of people that should be examined when they found his fingerprints and footwear. If researchers from the crime scene can be eliminated, fingerprints or shoe prints can indicate that the offender is.
On arrival, a researcher at the crime scene (CSI) began by doing what is known as a walk through test. A walk through consideration relates to the transformation of get an idea of the scene and the organization of an approach to gathering evidence.
